Kanye West has been ruffling quite a few feathers lately, but nobody has popped off on Yeezy quite as hard as Arsenio Hall did at a post-Grammy nominations press conference (Hall read out the nominees for Best New Artist).
The popular host took issue with West's recent comments on Power 105's The Breakfast Club, during which he implied that Hall was forced out of his first stint as a late night host in the 1990s by white corporate bosses.
Hall clarified that he left the show voluntarily, and countered that West should do his homework before making such accusations. But what really got him riled up was West's use of the word "slaves" in his hit track "New Slaves" on his latest album, Yeezus (the rapper has also compared himself to a slave in several interviews in the past few weeks).
“I hate the word 'slave' used in songs," Hall said angrily. "Get the f*** out of here. Do you know what that word is? Do you know what that word is all about? Nobody can use slave in pop culture. If you in the music business you should not f*** with that word. Too serious an error, too serious a problem in America,” he ranted. “There is no one that is free to move around this country that should use the word slave. Do you know what it meant to slaves?”
Doesn't look like Kanye will be invited to Arsenio's couch anytime soon.
