Turkish Airlines bans red lipstick and nail polish

                                   

If you are thinking of taking a vacation to Turkey, you will be better off leaving your cosmetics at home.

Turkey’s national airline has banned female flight attendants from wearing redlipstick and nail polish, according to a statement released by the company. The announcement hit a raw nerve among secular Turks who are worried that the country is becoming more Islamic.

Turkish Airlines, the fourth largest airline in Europe, said the ban was intended to keep the flight attendants natural looking, in order to improve their communication with passengers.

“Since our crew uniforms do not include any red and dark pink, wearing lipstick and nail polish in these colors would affect visual integrity,” the company statement said.

“I am happy to learn the news because now I know to stay away from this airline, and to stay away from Turkey. It is very disturbing that some Middle Eastern countries are forcing their own religious beliefs onto others,” Fanny Beach, 20, of Provo, Utah told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the lipstick ban.

Turkey is 99 percent Muslim, but the state is a member of NATO, European Union candidate, and has a secular constitution.
