Gun violence in America seems to be far from ending as over 12 victims wereshot in a matter of six hours in Chicago.
The shooting spree Chicago Tribune said began around 8PM CST (1400 GMT) when three people approached a 23-year-old man and a 44-year-old man on the 1800 block of North Francisco Avenue.
Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer says that moments later one of the three took out a gun and opened fire, striking the younger man in the chest.
“The older man took off running and was shot in the hand as he tried to flee,” Greer said. He was later treated at Mount Sinai Hospital and released.
The younger man, identified as Eugenio Solano was found unresponsive and died on the scene, according to Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police believe the incident stemmed from a gang-related issue and as of Sunday no suspects are currently in custody.
Last year, Chicago’s murder capital tallied 506 homicides on the year. The year before: 435. While last month, the murder rate dipped to 14 after one of Chicago’s bloodiest Januarys in a decade, the gun violence continues to cause bloodshed within the community.
